Photocopied transcription of letter from Lewis Fernald, WWII { Dutch East Indies :: c. 1944 - 1945 }
This is a photocopy of an unidentified transcription of a letter sent from Lewis Fernald from the Dutch East Indies.In the letter, Lewis Fernald briefly explains the state of his life in the war. He mentions being terrified from air bombardment, and states that the intensity reduced after the U.S. Invasion of Japanese occupied Philippines. This gives a timeline for the original of October 20, 1944 (Start of the U.S. invasion of the Philippines), and September 2, 1945 (Japanese surrender in the Philippines). The photocopy appears to be from an unknown book or document as a transcription on a modern typeface. Two corrections are written on the letter in blue pen – “Invasion” in the sentence “However, since the … very few raids”, and ‘r’ after ‘ou’.
